Noah's Descendants and Later Generations
Modified By Chrissie Collins on 2/11/2007 6:19:21 AM)
Genesis 9:18 – 28

Interesting Facts:

  1. Noah’s genealogy dated back to Seth, Adam and Eve’s 3rd son.
  2. Noah was born around 3036 BC, and lived until about 2086 BC.
  3. Noah and his family entered the ark around 2437 BC.
  4. Noah and his family left the ark around 2436 BC.
  5. Abraham was born only 10 years after Noah died.
  6. Shem, Noah’s son, was still living when Isaac was alive. Just think, Abraham and Isaac would have been able to learn about Shem’s experiences during the flood in the ark.
  7. Noah’s father, Lamech, could still talk to Adam, because Adam was still alive at that time.
*************************************************************
  1. Ham is the one that is the perpetrator – after Noah planted a vineyard and became drunk, he lay uncovered in his tent. The bible says that Ham ‘saw his father’s nakedness’ but Shem and Japeth covered their father in a respectful manner.

  1. Noah awoke to find out what his youngest son had done to him and cursed Ham’s son, Canaan.

  1. From Shem, came the Semitic people and the lineage up to Jesus.

  1. From Japheth, came the people Gomer, Magog, Madai, and Javan. The Indo-European people came from him also, meaning Caucasians.

  1. From Ham, came people of the Egyptians, Cushites, Ethiopians, Libyans, Canaanites, Assyrians and Babylonians (do you remember who built the tower of Babel?)
Ham's descendants settled towards the south west along the Mediterranean into North Africa and southward into the rest of the continent. Ham had four sons, but grandsons are listed for only three.

The Cushites settled in south Arabia, southern Egypt, the Sudan and northern Ethiopia.

Cush was the father of Nimrod, who built and ruled over the city of Babylon. The Babylonians invented the false religion of worshiping the stars.

The Canaanites who lived in Palestine came from the lineage of Ham. Their religion was based on murder and sexual perversions and worshipped the idol Baal. They were so corrupt that God commanded the Children of Israel to completely destroy them and their animals.

  1. Shem was blessed above Japheth (even though Japheth was the elder son) during the wine incident…can anyone speculate as to why?
