What is Revival?
Modified By Chrissie Collins on 2/10/2007 3:39:00 PM)
What is Revival?

Revival is not about coming to God and saying, “Ok here I am…do Your thing!!!”

Too many Christians think that they need to just ‘show up’ and God does all the work when in fact, the Bible is very clear about how we need to prepare ourselves to come to God.

Revival is for Christians, not for the lost. When true revival takes place, THEN evangelism of the lost follows the reviving of the saved.

God created us so that He could fellowship with us in a close relationship.

In the beginning, the Lord walked among His creation, even for a while after the fall…Genesis 3:8-10:

8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the LORD God called to the man, "Where are you?"  10 He answered, "I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid."

But because sin began to increase more and more, the Lord could no longer walk among them like He had done, but men then had to start calling on the name of the Lord – Genesis 4:25-26:

25 Adam lay with his wife again, and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth, [i] saying, "God has granted me another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him." 26 Seth also had a son, and he named him Enosh.
At that time men began to call on [j] the name of the LORD.

First – We must examine ourselves

Lamentations 3:40-42

40 Let us examine our ways and test them,
and let us return to the LORD. 41 Let us lift up our hearts and our hands
to God in heaven, and say:  42 "We have sinned and rebelled
       and you have not forgiven.

2nd Corinthians 13:5

5 Examine yourselves (and not our neighbor) to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?

2nd Chronicles 7:14

14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

This can be a painful process. When people think of revival they think of joy, laughter and happiness. The truth is, real revival can ONLY come when we look at ourselves the way we really are from the Lord’s point of view.

Second – We must cleanse ourselves

If we want a serious move of God to happen, we must first prepare ourselves to meet Him – Genesis 19:1-19
10 And the LORD said to Moses, "Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow. Have them wash their clothes 11 and be ready by the third day, because on that day the LORD will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people. 12 Put limits for the people around the mountain and tell them, 'Be careful that you do not go up the mountain or touch the foot of it. Whoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to death. 13 He shall surely be stoned or shot with arrows; not a hand is to be laid on him. Whether man or animal, he shall not be permitted to live.' Only when the ram's horn sounds a long blast may they go up to the mountain."
14 After Moses had gone down the mountain to the people, he consecrated them, and they washed their clothes. 15 Then he said to the people, "Prepare yourselves for the third day. Abstain from sexual relations."

James 4:8-10

8Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

I challenge you to put away apathy and the sense of going through the motions that we all go through from time to time when coming to worship the Lord. We need to get serious about our reverence and worship of Him, because He is:
